Google brings real estate listings back to mobile search

Google brings real estate listings back to mobile search

Google has quietly brought real estate listings back into its mobile search results for users in a handful of U.S. cities. The feature, which was previously removed, now relies on data from HouseCanary, a real estate analytics firm. Listings are being pulled from the California Regional Multiple Listing Service (CRMLS) and eXp Realty, giving home shoppers a direct way to see properties without leaving the search engine.

The move marks a shift in how Google approaches the housing market. Earlier attempts to integrate for-sale listings faced pushback from industry giants like Zillow and Realtor.com, who argued that Google was using their data without permission. This time, the tech company has partnered with a licensed data provider, HouseCanary, to ensure the information is accurate and legally sourced.

For now, the feature is only available in a limited number of markets. Users searching for homes in those areas will see a carousel of property photos, prices, and basic details directly in the search results. Clicking on a listing takes the user to a dedicated page with more information, but Google is not acting as a broker or charging fees for the listings.

The return of real estate data to mobile search could change how people start their home search. Instead of opening a separate app, they can simply type a query into Google and see available homes. However, the limited rollout means most users will not see the feature yet. Google has not announced when or if it will expand to more cities.
