Greenberg Traurig Adds NY Real Estate Partner Brian Helweil

Brian Helweil has come aboard Greenberg Traurig as a shareholder in the firm's global real estate practice, based in its New York office. The firm confirmed the hire on Tuesday, adding a veteran dealmaker to its ranks.

Helweil brings more than two decades of experience focused on complex commercial real estate transactions. His work spans acquisitions and dispositions, joint ventures, and development projects, with a particular emphasis on office, retail, and mixed-use properties. He has also handled significant financing and restructuring matters, often stepping in when deals hit troubled patches.

Before joining Greenberg Traurig, Helweil spent over a decade at another major law firm, where he led the real estate group in New York. He has represented institutional investors, private equity funds, and developers in some of the city's most high-profile property deals.

The move strengthens Greenberg Traurig's already sizable real estate bench in New York, which has been actively adding partners over the past year. The firm's global practice covers everything from leasing and land use to hospitality and affordable housing.

Helweil said he was drawn to the firm's collaborative model and its ability to pair local market knowledge with international reach. He noted that many of his clients are increasingly looking at cross-border opportunities, and he expects that trend to continue.
