Maryland's attorney general has filed a lawsuit against MV Realty, alleging the real estate company tricked homeowners into signing predatory loan agreements with hidden and confusing terms. The complaint claims the company targeted vulnerable residents, including seniors and those facing financial strain, by offering quick cash in exchange for exclusive listing rights.
According to the attorney general's office, MV Realty's contracts locked homeowners into decades-long agreements that required them to pay a commission if they sold their property or even if they simply wanted to refinance. The terms, buried in fine print, were intentionally vague, making it nearly impossible for homeowners to understand the long-term financial burden. The state argues that these deals functioned more like high-interest loans than standard real estate services, with fees that could balloon far beyond what was initially disclosed.
The lawsuit seeks to void all existing contracts with Maryland residents and demands restitution for those who already paid penalties. It also calls for civil penalties against the company for what the attorney general described as a pattern of deceptive and unfair trade practices. MV Realty has not yet issued a public response to the specific allegations in the Maryland case, but similar lawsuits have been filed in other states over the same business model. The case highlights ongoing concerns about aggressive real estate tactics that exploit homeowners' lack of legal or financial knowledge.
